Amsterdam is for (cheese) Lovers
The Venice of the North is the land of bicycles and cheese. We were lucky enough to spend 4 days there with the American Repertory Theatre for the world premiere of their co-production (with Toneelgroep Amsterdam) of Ola Mafaalani's "Wings of Desire" (himmel boven berlijn) at the beaux-arts Stadsschouwburg Theatre.UPDATE: Sadly, it would prove to be our friend Robert Woodruff's own moment of triumph and farewell, as a few weeks later he would be forced out by Harvard's innate tendency to kill that which is artistically exceptional, in deference to that which is stolidly predictable.
